Treatment consists of at least 3 sessions to the vagina and vulva, 6 to 8 weeks apart. There may be a need for once yearly maintenance therapy.

The treatment consists of a 10 to 15 minute office visit. It is very painless and topical, anesthetic cream is only applied externally to the vulvar region. The CO2 MonaLisa Laser is specifically designed for this purpose only and thus is extremly gentle while being very effective. It delivers a laser impulse to the vagina/vulva region that causes an inflammatory reaction that helps to create new blood vessels to form. This is turn then helps to rejuvenate the tissue of the vagina and vulva and increases the growth of collagen and increases the moisture in the vaginal canal. Some patients will feel relief after the first seesion but almost all patients will notice relief after the second session.

Treatment

There are no specific protocols pre-treatment. It is recommended not to use any vaginal or vulva creams and to wear loose fitting clothing that day. It is best to shower that morning, cleanse the area and rinse it well. Clipping or shaving of hair is not necessary.

Pre-Treatment Recommendations

Post -Treatment

The skin may initally feel somewaht sensitive and a bit swollen. For the vulvar region a cool icepack or towel will help. Vaseline cream can also be applied to this area to act as a barrier cream which also is soothing. Avoid wearing tight fitting clothing such as tight jeans. Refrain from sex for at least 1 week after treatment. There may be some vaginal discharge including a small amount of pink discharge. This is quite normal.

Most people find that these symptoms virtually all disappear within 1 to 2 weeks and will start to notice some improvement usually around the 4 week mark or even after the first therapy for many.
